With One Chart Tablet, We Can . . . Read, Write and Learn!
Help me give my students supplies and resources we need to have a productive year. The year is filled with lots of learning but it is made hard when students or teachers do not have the basics.
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
The use of is notebook is almost a daily activity in my classroom, especially in math, reading and writing. Using the workshop model in math, students come to the rug with notebooks for guided practice and to record modeled strategies in their notebooks. When students do not have notebooks to take down steps and glue copies, they lose the opportunity to go back and check/reference what steps they missed so they can correct mistakes and learn from errors.
After we take notes, we use the notebooks to help answer problems using dry erase markers.
Students love using the dry erase markers which allow me to see exactly what they are doing, as well as provide an easy place for them to show and share their work and not waste so much paper as I have in the past. What becomes a problem is having no paper to print the activity, and the markers never seem to last and tend to disappear. When something goes awry, students know that they must leave the rug quietly to get a new marker, new eraser, or the last choice, pencil and paper. By having chart tablets, notebooks, copy paper to make copies, and folders, students will be able to do everything they need and not worry about catching up. Students can now focus on increasing their learning and working with their partners and friends!
