Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students are very special because they work hard to learn high school content while learning a new language. All of my students are ESL students. They are a diverse group that recently immigrated to the United States from Egypt, Mexico, Nepal, Bangladesh and Pakistan. Our school, located in Queens, New York, serves a large population of students who live under the poverty level.
My students enjoy learning about history from the perspective of individuals who actually experienced the events.
My Project
My students create great work every day and I would like to display their work. Unfortunately, my classroom does not have any bulletin boards. To me, bulletin boards are like another teacher in the classroom, a friendly reminder of writing strategies and word walls. A magnetic bulletin board would be an ideal addition to my classroom because it would provide a space to display student work.
A classroom filled with the work of students is a welcoming environment and sends a message to students that their work and their learning are important.
I also envision the dry erase board as a hub for interactive discussion among my students.
