Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
I am a Speech and Language Pathologist (SLP) working in an elementary school in the Norwood Heights section of the Bronx. My students have a wide range of communication challenges and require specialized and culturally competent instruction aligned with their Individualized Educational Plan.
As a SLP, I provide services to my students to support the instructional program at my school.
I am seeking funding for a Promethean Board to best assist my students, enhance their communication skills and improve use and understanding of language. A Promethean Board will enable me to provide my students with a rich visual learning experience that will accelerate learning new concepts and information.
The Promethean Board will also allow me to create a variety of lessons specific to speech and language pathology. Using the Promethean Board, I can target expressive and receptive language skills, improve vocabulary, improve pragmatic and social communication skills using “turn-taking” strategies and improve understanding of the elements of stories.
In addition, a Promethean Board will make differentiated learning easier because it will accommodate different learning styles. For example, visual learners will benefit from the infinite number of visual aids, auditory learners can listen to videos, and kinesthetic learners will benefit using the interactive touch screen.
Lastly, the Promethean Board will encourage and promote a fun and interactive learning experience for all my students!
