My Students
My class of 26 students consists of roughly half English Language learners and almost entirely students from low income families. As a first year teacher, I am striving to create an environment that is welcoming and a place where students have access to all necessary resources. Each child comes to school with a desire to learn, and it is my responsibility to foster that passion even further.
With this project, I anticipate providing materials to each student to promote an environment in which students are able to learn and thrive.
My hope with this project is to fill the classroom with a class set of books, which will allow us to read together as a class and complete a group book study. I will also be able to integrate flexible seating around our small group learning table, which will help to motivate students and integrate more uniqueness into the classroom.
My Project
The flexible seating options create a welcoming environment in the classroom which promotes the feeling of comfort for students. Many children are filled with anxiety throughout the school day and access to these wobble chairs can greatly impact their ability to focus. They will be allowed access at all times of the day with instructions implemented on how to share equally.
Reading is one place in which students can let go of things around them and imagine a new place.
I have asked for a class set of books so all students can read along with me. This will greatly impact our classroom routine because each child will have access to a book. They will have something that feels like their own and something to take care of throughout the book study. Covid-19 has limited the sharing ability in the classroom, and with rising case numbers it would be extremely helpful to allow each student to have access to their own book.
