My Students
My students are hungry, not only for the food in the cafeteria, but also for the lessons in their books.
My students attend a rural K-8 school in California.
We are about as far as it gets from New England, but it's an area that we focus on during our colonial unit. My students learn about American history via projects (Indian museum, colonial day, trial reenactment, etc) but they also enjoy reading. I don't think any of my students will forget reading The Witch of Blackbird Pond in 5th grade.
My Project
My students need reading material in order to focus on New England Puritan society. National Geographic has great materials for teaching American history. I own books about the American revolution (George versus George) and Lewis & Clark. The Witches book is a nonfiction text that focuses on Salem in 1692. Not only are the articles interesting, the illustrations are hyper-engaging! (the ten copies of The Witch of Blackbird Pond in this project are replacement copies, as mine are falling apart). Help us get books to explore our colonial unit.

Reading engagement shouldn't be reserved for fiction. The National Geographic Witch book is a high-interest nonfiction text that my students will really enjoy.
