Our school district has always tried to be a leader in the world of education. We were some of the first to adopt a one-to-one plan, putting iPads in the hands of all our students in hopes they would each have individualized learning and challenges that met their needs. In our district, we don't allow income status to be a barrier for student learning; we do all we can to balance the scales and ensure that every child receives a quality education.
The students in my class are motivated, hard working, creative, and inspiring.
They are eager to learn more about everything in the area of science and technology, and I want to give them the opportunity to apply this knowledge to real-life tasks.
My Project
The LEGO Mindstorms EV3 will make a tremendous difference in my classroom this year and for years to come. Currently, we have been coding on our iPads through two programs, but haven't been able to apply these computer science skills to anything off screen. With these two LEGO kits, we can at least rotate our groups through the kits to allow them to problem solve while constructing the robots and then apply the coding skills they have been refining all school year.
The 21st century continues to evolve in the area of computer science, and I want to provide my students with the introductory skills they might need to pursue a career in this field.
Our students deserve to leave grade school having been exposed to more than just reading and writing. They should have exposure to constructing, problem solving, and creating in real-world situations. This LEGO set will be the start of the materials we will need to give them quality material and instruction to inspire them to consider several career fields.
