My Students

I have students who really enjoy reading. They lay under my desks, sprawl out on the floor, and dive right into their books during Independent Reading. I want to make sure the reading experience is truly enjoyable and will allow them to have a growth mindset. We spend 60 minutes each class reading.

I teach in an urban community that has a very diverse culture of students.

I teach at a Title I school. Many of my students are from low income homes. The students are eager and ready to learn. This year, we are emphasizing on the importance of reading. I see a lot of potential in my students and want their reading experience to be one that they will remember and enjoy so they will continue to read long after they leave my classroom. My students have been taught that we are setting goals and plan for everyone to be able to go to school if they choose too. Reading is an essential part of any academic program and will play a major role on a students success or failure in school and possible life. I have a very good relationship with my students and want them to feel like our classroom is a great place for learning, reading, and growing in a positive way.

My Project

The reading rug will allow students to lay on the carpet during our mini-lessons giving us a warm and inviting environment. Students will also be allowed to lay on the rug/pillows during independent reading. Students currently lay under desks, in the corners, and across the front of the room on the floor. I would like them to be more comfortable and not have to lay on the hard tile floor. The art supplies are for our vocabulary activities. The students love a chance to be creative and enjoy making colorful wordwalls, mindmaps (concept maps), and illustrations with their vocabulary words, stories from our read-a-loud's, and class lessons.

These donations will let the students know that we as a country value them and their education.

These items will make the classroom more inviting and a better atmosphere for reading. It will unite our classrooms diverse culture by bringing everyone together on the rug on a daily basis to share ideas and participate in class discussion. Students will connect with each other and the teacher and will leave the classroom at the end of the year with stronger reading skills.
