About My Students
My students are amazing 21st century learners. Luckily, they have a class set of Chromebooks to showcase their talents; however, the trackpad mouse does not work properly and creates a lot of frustration for them. When William and John mentioned wireless mice, the whole class was onboard!
In my English class, there is a lot of research, website navigating, typing, creating, etc., all of which involves the use of the trackpad. The Chromebooks are an amazing tool, but the trackpad is horrible: "it isn't working," "it is stuck again," "arrrgh," etc., are just some of the things that are said on a daily basis. When two students suggested that we needed wireless mice for the Chromebooks; the entire class wanted to be part of the proposal. They really want them before state testing, but that is in less than a month away, eek!
21st century skills are imperative in today's society. Students need to incorporate these skills in conjunction with the California Common Core State Standards. Having wireless mice will allow the students to focus on their creativity and work, rather than on the faulty trackpad. Students will continue to develop their technology skills, but they will also work on all of their other skills sans frustration (at least from the trackpad acting up).
In Their Own Words
We are trying to get wireless mice for our class set of Chromebooks. We are thankful to have the Chromebooks, but since they are more than a year old, the trackpad is starting to fail. It causes a lot of problems and having wireless mice would solve this problem and allow us to spend our time working and not trying to get the trackpad to move.
We would be in charge of unpacking them, setting them up, numbering them, and checking them out to our classmates for use throughout the day. We wouldn't have to teach how to use them, so all of us could use them right away and avoid the horrible Chromebook trackpad.
This project is important to us because we can focus on our work. We waste a lot of class time daily trying to get the trackpad where we want it and once we get it there, it takes even longer to actually get it to click. The wireless mouse would solve all kings of problems: cutting, pasting, highlighting, clicking, navigating, etc., frustration free.
