Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
We live in South Texas, and I have a wonderful group of kiddos in my class. My classroom consists of students with various learning styles. I have several students who are English language learners, some with special educational needs due to learning difficulties, including two with dyslexia, a couple who are gifted and talented, and others with ADHD and behavioral problems. This diverse group of students is always eager to learn and wild about incorporating any technology into their projects, assignments, and activities! They work hard daily, and their enthusiasm for learning grows when they hear that hands-on technology will somehow be involved in their work! They have shown motivation, commitment, responsibility, and patience when it is time to use the limited amount of technology and resources available in my classroom to complete assignments. They deserve the opportunity to extend and enrich their learning with more digital and electronic learning devices for the classroom!
My Project
STEAM with technology has been an extraordinary addition to our classroom, but we have been very limited in our resources. I’ve selected Wireless Headphones to add to my classroom so that my students can work on their STEAM activities without worrying about the noise around them. My students will be allowed the freedom needed to be more creative and tech savvy while working on STEAM activities. We have been blessed with new devices that will help them create digital books through apps like Pages, iBooks Author, Book Creator and Storybird. They can photograph and record academic content to add to their digital journal with apps such as Seesaw and Flipgrid. They will present and share activities through creative and innovative means like Puppet Edu, Clips, Green Screen, Keynote, iMovie and GarageBand, and participate in online learning games and quizzes through apps like Kahoot! and Quizizz. All of these activities are engaging and fun, but with many students working on them at the same time, the classroom gets pretty noisy (learning noise) and the sound and audio quality on their digital crafts is compromised.
These headphones will help with cancelling out noise while also helping them produce better quality STEAM content.
My students are deserving of more creative ways to learn and apply without any restriction or lack of resources. Engaging them in STEAM activities now will prepare them for future STEAM related careers in this 21st Century!
