Math problems! The words alone can strike fear in the hearts of many! As a math teacher, I strive to make math fun. I want my students to love math--not be afraid of it. Building confidence through drilling basic facts and problems does just that.
My students are AWESOME!!
Each day they come to school with a willingness to learn. This is despite the fact that most of my students are on free and reduced lunch. Many come from high poverty environments where there is little educational support at home. We have many students from single parent homes. This alone adds stress to their daily lives. Despite all of their circumstances, our kids show up ready to learn each day. Our school is their home away from home. I want them to have many ways to have fun and learn at the same time! Math is an important part of their daily life as well as their academic future. I strive to build confidence and a solid math foundation for the students who pass through my classroom. I hope that this will put them on the road to success!!
I am requesting dry erase boards, markers, and erasers. This will provide a low-cost and exciting way for students to learn. We will play games with our math facts and have friendly competitions which the kids LOVE! Drill and repetition is key in math. These materials will also make it easy for me to see who needs extra help with the type of problems we are practicing.
There are lots of high-tech gadgets out there.
I want my students to see that learning does not have to cost a lot. There are lots of fun and simple ways to learn. I look forward to many days of learning and fun with our dry erase boards. Students absolutely love competing against one another. These boards will allow us to practice and review the math concepts that we are currently studying. These boards add an element of excitement that pencil and paper just do not have.
