Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
We are requesting materials for our students to make winter items to donate to our community in and out of school. Many of our students have been learning how to make clothing, knit, and crochet. They need more supplies to create hats, gloves, mittens, socks, and other items that will help people in our community be safe and comfortable in the winter. These supplies include yarn for knitting and crocheting, as well as a sewing machine to create other clothing items. This project was suggested by students and they are very excited about having the clothing they make go back into our community!
We plan on having some of these on hand at school for students who do not have access to winter gear as well as donate pieces to local shelters and community centers.
By starting in October, we hope to have these items ready for when the winter months approach and people do not have these necessary clothing items. In addition to helping our community, these skills and community service actions will be important for our students as they are prepared to go out into the world and be productive members of their communities.
