Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students come from many different countries across the globe. They speak multiple languages and have some incredible life stories that I love to listen to as I learn about each of them. Their experiences are both incredible and harrowing, and yet we all come together in the same classroom to find comfort, education, a positive environment, and a unique learning experience.

What makes these students so special, is that they all have something to teach each other, and they always have something to teach me.

Each year, I learn a great deal about my students and about the experiences they've had and the places they've been. In a world where new technology and traditional education is always at our fingertips, it's meaningful for me as a teacher to expose my students to special opportunities, unique trips, and a comfortable setting where learning is evident and expected, and all students will remain engaged so that we can try new things and always remain successful. I hope to engage disengaged students by giving them reasons to come to school and get excited about learning!

My Project

It's that time of year again- where the weather is cold, the sky is dark, and snow will arrive soon. It's that time of the year where my students may not have the things they need to stay warm and dry on their long walks and city bus rides to and from school.

This project was created to combat the cold air, wind, snow, and hunger, and keep students healthy, safe, and warm this winter season while encouraging and motivating them to come to school every day!

In order to continuously increase our attendance and student engagement, students need to know how loved and cared for they are. In order to do this it helps to have supplies they may need and not be able to get such as warm gloves, umbrellas, or city bus passes for their walks or rides to and from school to be sure they are safe, warm, dry, and comfortable.

Having extra snacks in the classroom also helps students learn by allowing them to focus on their reading and writing instead of on their growling bellies and throbbing heads. Providing students with things they want and need also provides them with love, comfort, safety, and compassion. Everything about this project will increase relationship building, trust, support, safety, and ultimately learning.
