My Students

My school district is one of the most diverse districts in the state of Missouri. We serve about 850 students in 6th through 8th grades and provide rigorous academics, dedicated teachers, and a safe learning environment for students of many different ethnicities, backgrounds, cultures, and socioeconomic levels.

I am a Reading Specialist in a Title I school where around 90% of my students receive free or reduced-price lunch.

They need additional resources to be successful.

Many students are not native English speakers; others have language and educational needs due to the limited amount of conversation and education they may receive outside of school.

Many of our students have experienced trauma and/or homelessness. Because of this, I strive to provide a safe, comfortable, homey learning environment for all my students. By doing so, I hope to inspire the students to come to school each day ready to learn and start fresh.

My Project

Many of my students experience trauma and/or homelessness, making it hard enough to focus on their education. Adding a lack of basic items to keep warm on top of this makes it nearly impossible to come to school ready to learn.

Having access to hats and gloves will allow the students the opportunity to come to class warm and ready to learn.

Having hats and gloves available for students in need will allow students in need to be able to concentrate more on academics and less on meeting their basic needs. It will also allow their parents not to worry about getting these items when their resources are already stretched thin.
