Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

As we approach December and winter break, I provide my students with fun STEM activities like "making" snow and growing crystal "snow-covered" trees. This year I would like to give them a cozy, winter classroom vibe with a pre-lit, artificial mini-tree and stockings.

Each one of my students will receive a stocking which we will hang, but how full the stocking will get will be up to them.

Once they make their gingerbread ornament, it will become the name tag of their stockings. Every day students will be able to select requested STEM prizes to fill their stockings which they will receive on the last day of class before winter break so they can take their stocking reward home. The criteria to earn a STEM stocking stuffer prize is completing homework and making good behavior choices on the yard during recess and lunch.

Finally, using school-issued "Gator Dollars" for doing good, students will be able to purchase gingerbread house panels and supplies to be creative architects and make a free-standing gingerbread house. Working with partners, they will construct a gingerbread house for our village that will be placed by the Christmas tree. With the winter holiday decor, gingerbread houses, stockings stuffed with STEM prizes, and light-up wand streamers, my students will be able to make a small winter wonderland for our classroom of which they will be proud.
