This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
When my elementary P.E. students are given the choice of free play or structured activities, 9 times out of 10, they will choose structured activities! Establishing a safe structured environment in the gym can benefit students by providing opportunities for growth without the overwhelming pressure of winning or losing, and by leveling the playing field for students that do not play organized sports.
My goal with this project is to differentiate traditional sports by introducing games with similar rules, boundaries, terminology, tactics, and other prerequisites, by utilizing the love students have for simple fitness games such as tag.
Physical Education class in elementary school has a special magical power like no other subject area. It can motivate kids with behavior problems, boost self-esteem, and even teach lifelong lessons and social skills.
Over the last 10 years, I have developed and tuned age-appropriate games (Top 5 Elementary Prerequisites Games for Sports) that focus less on skill-based components, and more on movement, teamwork, strategy/tactics, sportsmanship, and problem solving.
My Top 5 Games: Pirate Rescue, Animal Crossing, Capture the Scarfs, Flickerball, and Flood Gates, set the bar high in my gym. The items that I have requested will be used for differentiating instruction, team building, keeping score/achieving goal, and fostering a safe structured environment.
