Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I have nineteen beautiful children who come to school ready to learn while having fun. They are inquisitive, passionate, and sweet. They are getting ready for first grade. My quote: "Tell me and I forget. Teach me and I remember. Involve me and I learn". That's what this project will do!

This is a very active class.

Students are working hard from the moment they walk into the classroom until it is time to go home. They like working on lessons that include some form of hands-on activity. These students are visual and kinesthetic learners. I also have one student who has special needs and lessons that include hands-on activities, are very important for his academic success. I have nineteen beautiful children who come from different parts of Central and South America. These students are all English Language Learners with a mission: "Getting ready for First Grade and working hard towards that goal". This school is one of the lowest poverty level schools in the district, yet you wouldn't know that my students are struggling economically. Once they walk through my door, they are ready to learn. They remain focused and work hard to master the skills necessary to be successful. Unfortunately, I work with limited resources because there is no money to buy more.

My Project

My lessons are designed to include hands-on projects. The items that I am requesting will help me execute lessons that are creative and engaging. The arts and craft items such as pipe cleaners and glitter will bring my lessons to life. The majority of my students are visual and sensory learners, and these items will help them attain a deeper understanding of what I am trying to teach them. The leveled books will help my students master their reading skills. We work hard on writing, and the writing paper will help us practice illustrations and writing text. The historical videos I've requested will help students learn about the different aspects of the era and historical figures being studied. Finally, the books on CD will be used during our listening centers. This project will help my students acquire background knowledge that they can use in the future.

These items will create an excitement among my students.

They have not been exposed to the different types of resources I have requested. It will help develop their background knowledge and keep them actively engaged. My students will be encouraged to continue working hard to achieve their goals. This year I did not get all the supplies I needed and I am in desperate need of leveled books for students to practice their reading strategies.
