Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Socializing and making friends can be difficult for children with autism. My students have made great gains with their social skills over the last year and I am so excited to see how much more they can progress!
I work in a school in a very low income area.
We have limited resources and teachers regularly need to supplement classroom resources their own money. I teach a classroom of students with severe autism. Since my students can't learn in a traditional way, my classroom needs far more individualized and specialized materials in order to provide appropriate educational opportunities.
My Project
I am asking for a variety of games for my students. Many of my students have some great emerging social skills. They have started greeting each other and interacting on their own which is amazing for kids with autism! It has been so fun to watch them develop into friends. We have a few classroom games that my students love but we really need more! Having a structured game time would allow my students to practice turn taking, following directions, asking and answering questions, talking to their peers, and academic skills.
Having friends is such an important part of a fulfilling lifestyle.
My students are energetic, social, and fun young adults but they need help to learn how to interact with each other. Having these extra materials will allow us to work on these skills and expand upon my students emerging social abilities. Please help support my students in this!
