This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
Have you spent time in a classroom with middle school students? They are always hungry. Middle school students are very motivated by one thing...snacks.
I teach 6th grade Language Arts in a low-income, Title I school, where all students are on a free or reduced lunch program.
Motivating students to do the necessary intervention work in order to help them make gains in their reading ability is a daily challenge. I teach them the value of practicing their reading skills, but let's face it....they just don't want to do the work.
Maybe some call it bribery...I call it motivation. I celebrate student work completion every day but they seem to respond so much better to a celebration with hot chips!
Snacks are expensive. For over half of the school year, I have been purchasing snacks for the kids. Some work hard for the only purpose of getting a snack...some are just hungry and need to see that someone cares. But as a single mom, snacks are just something I can't afford to continue providing.
That is why I came here to ask for help.
Help me to continue motivating (and feeding) my middle school students.
