it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Our school is an inner-city, comprehensive public high school in Richmond, California. Over 85% of students qualify for free or reduced-price lunch, and over 95% are students of color.
The challenges many of our students face are profound, and many suffer from trauma associated with poverty, crime, and instability at home.
Despite these challenges, our students are driven and determined to gain musical skill and be the best they can be. Their love for music and eagerness to learn is a constant source of inspiration. They deserve more.

My Project
The good news is we have two beautiful tubas. We have a very nice Mack tuba, which was purchased three years ago, and brand new Eastman which was purchased last year with a combination of district and donated funds. The bad news is, these beautiful instruments can be a bit unwieldy for young music students in rehearsal. This project will seek to outfit our music program with a new tuba stand and mouth piece to save the day.
With your help, our freshman tuba players will no longer struggle to wrangle their tubas to play with correct posture during rehearsals.
This new stand will not only aid our students play with proper technique, it will also help protect the instrument and minimize the chance of damage.
