Help me give my students supplies to promote positive hygiene, which will not only help my students' immune systems, but also their ability to come to school daily.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
I have been working with this middle school community for over 25 years. While the students have come and graduated, our community remains the same. A network of strong individuals dedicated to helping our students learn and grow. The students at this school are intelligent, inquisitive, and energetic. They come in everyday striving to learn more and help others.
I teach special education in resource room with amazing students who come from a low-income neighborhood in Chicago where 98% of the students receive free breakfast and lunch.
My Project
My students love coming to school and learning, however, without maintaining proper hygiene they get sick and miss important activities. My colleagues and I would like to start a Health and Wellness room for families of the DWES community. In this room, we would provide access to free hygiene supplies including the ones listed below (tooth paste, mouth wash, body soap, and laundry baskets). Parents would be able to come to school and receive both free supplies and free access to workshops where we discuss how to support our scholars both mentally and physically.
With your help, my students and their families will be able to get their hygiene needs met and come to school every day ready to learn and grow.
