This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My schools is located in a low-income neighborhood where almost 40% of our students come from one of 4 surrounding shelters. Many of my students, as a result of their home lives, face several challenges each day. Every year despite these challenges I work to keep things exciting and engaging, providing them with various creative and meaningful learning experiences.

Every year I work with my students to build a love of learning in all capacities that will travel with them for years to come!

From the minute they walk in the door of my classroom I focus on their potential and growth while they are with me. I may not be able to control their home lives; however, I can certainly control their experience during the school day. By doing this in a caring, creative and positive way, I hope to always inspire my students to continue moving on the path to excellence.

My Project

In my math class I encourage my students to take risks and keep trying. Dry erase boards are a fun and ecologically friendly way to do that. Instead of wasting sheets and sheets of paper on trial and error math work, they would now have the ability to show their math work and have the freedom to erase and redo! Pair the whiteboards with a good long lasting marker, and a washable and reusable eraser this setup is sure to work wonders during out math block!

Students who are hesitant to practice new skills with old school paper and pencil would now be encouraged to do so in a way that, for some reason, is less scary and intimidating and way more fun!

It is my hope that this is a less stressful and more fun way of taking math risks, brainstorming ideas and will hopefully encourage my students to encourage each other to practice and become better mathematicians!
