Help me give my students an opportunity to make connections as a new 3rd grade class through reading The Wild Robot in anticipation of the movie release!
In my thirty years of teaching experience I have learned one way to build a community in your classroom is to have a shared reading experience with a powerful novel. The Wild Robot is the perfect novel to create a class family and a reading community.
The Commission of Reading shares, "The single most important activity for building knowledge required for eventual success is reading aloud to children." As we read together students will not only form bonds as a class family, they will build listening skills, develop vocabulary rich language, and cultivate a love of reading.
The Wild Robot will have students falling in love with the main character, Roz, while exploring the themes of friendship, family, bullying, and helping others.
