In our southwest Louisiana rural community, half of our students come from low-income households. My ultimate goal as a teacher is to give all 16 of my students a strong foundation in reading. I love to make learning and reading fun; therefore, I am excited to continue that journey with my students!
Mrs. Richard's students are ready for novel studies!
For the second half of the school year, I begin bridging the reading gap of “learning to read” to “reading to learn” with my 2nd grade students. To make this possible, my students need books in their hands that not only interest them, but are exciting for them to read.
My students need individual books for our novel study on the text, The Wild Robot. I would love for each student to have their own copy of the novel, so that my students can be fully invested in their reading. Throughout this novel, my students will explore the wilderness through the main character’s eyes, along with learning key morals such as friendship, teamwork, and respecting the differences of others. Being able to read directly from the text will not only help my students master essential reading skills, but it will also keep my students engaged and interested as they discover a new love of reading chapter books!
One of my goals as a teacher is to not only help my students be successful for second grade, but to also set them up to strive in the future as well. These books will help my students gain a solid reading background, and show them the excitement that a chapter book can bring them!
