Help me give my students The Wild Robot books that will inspire their imaginations and creativity!
This project expired on March 27, 2019.
Hooray! This project is fully funded
Students at our school are curious, kind and energetic! They love hands-on learning experiences! We are a small, close-knit community in a rural area. For my students, school is a second home where they feel safe and loved.
My school culture embraces and promotes the home to school connection.
We strive to create an environment where students feel safe, excited and find complete joy in their learning. It is our goal to empower our students so that they become responsible and driven in their own learning.
Students will make real-world connections while reading The Wild Robot. The books will be used for enrichment and exploration of literature, as well as an extension into STEM learning. My third graders will complete many engineering design challenges while reading this book. These include creating camouflage, making prosthetics and survival shelters.
The Wild Robot books will be used to build reading comprehension while exploring such themes as change, empathy, creativity and problem solving.
Students will work together cooperatively in book discussion groups to delve deeper into the meaning of the text. These discussions will be student led, thus creating a sense of community within our classroom. I will act as the facilitator in their learning, letting them lead the way!
