Help me give my students a class set of this incredible book, The Wild Robot. Book sets allow my students to each engage in the story through a combination of read alouds, independent reading, and in small groups.
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
Class book sets are an essential part of my reading comprehension curriculum. We engage in real novel studies through guided, interactive read aloud that facilitate higher literary analysis, vocabulary development, and analyzing author's craft. Students also engage with their own copy of the book for independent rereading and referencing the text, and also in paired and small group readings with comprehension discussions.
Through reading real literature, rather than the traditional textbook anthology excerpts, students learn about character development, the arc of the plot, how the author uses figurative language, how the author develops themes, and more!
Throughout a class set reading, we use Jot Journals to keep track of our thinking and new learning as the story unfolds chapter-by-chapter. This work culminates with writing responses to literature essays such as analyzing how a character changes over the course of the plot, or how a theme is woven and developed throughout the story.
Students must have their own copy of the text to bring this meaningful work to life!
