My Students
My students come from a rural district in the Delta. Some of my students will be first generation high school graduates. Our school is Title I and sixty-seven percent of them qualify for free or reduced meals.
The area is changing as cotton production is down and new steel mills coming to the areas.
The students are starting to see that they need an education to enter the changing workforce of the Delta. Many of them dreamed of working on the farm but the need for farm labor is changing. My students need to be college and career ready.
My Project
My students are wanting to find the funds for a TV mount and class Chromebook. The students have identified that a mounted TV would allow everyone in the class to see what is being projected. The students need a tilt mount so they can see.
The Chromebook will be used when one of the classroom computers is not working.
This will allow the students to continue working even if a device is not working. The students believe that reading is more exciting when you add technology to the learning. The school provided the 28 devices and the students have been working to add other needed supplies.
More than half of students from low‑income households
