Wild About Learning Financial Literacy!

Help me give my students the opportunity to learn a critical life skill that that will empower them to make informed decisions about money!

My Project

My school district is wild about learning, and we want to plan an after-school learning event filled with thought provoking stations and a real-life learning opportunity. Elementary students love to attend Build-A-Bear workshops, but these events can be costly and often too expensive for families to afford. This event provides a Build-A-Bear workshop for our school community at no cost!

Families are sure to swing by to participate in an evening filled with not only opportunities to learn, but an opportunity to spend quality time together!

Guests will arrive to a jungle-themed decorated room where they will get to stuff a safari animal through a Build-A-Bear workshop. Families will rotate through 5 learning stations which focus on math, reading, and writing.

Funds from this grant will support the financial literacy math stations. Students will learn a critical life skill that that will empower them to make informed decisions about money and budgeting. By teaching students about financial matters early on, we equip them with the tools they need to become financially responsible adults.

Adopting a pet is a big responsibility and can be costly. This real-life learning opportunity will require students to purchase items to care for their new stuffed pet. They will need to consider needs vs. wants and stay within a budget. Students will purchase food, bowls (tin pans), a collar, and pay an application fee. They can also purchase bandanas, bows, or ties, but they will have to spend wisely as all items cannot be purchased within the budget. This is a fun way for students to practice their math skills as they complete the computation of their purchases while learning about financial literacy as well! Each family will receive a handout including learning activities to extend learning at home!
