Wiggly Learners Need Spectacular Seats!

Help me give my students flexible seating options to channel their energy and excitement for learning. The Jellyfish chair is a developmentally appropriate chair for these wiggly learners!

My Students

My students are all between the ages of 5 and 6 years old. They are inquisitive, playful, and always wanting to explore their world! They use all their senses and their whole bodies to learn, which is developmentally appropriate for them right now. They have varying abilities because each child is special and unique! I like to celebrate each child for the contributions they make to our class.

My Project

Research has shown that "Early Childhood" is a time when children are active, yet traditional classroom furniture includes chairs and tables for students to sit still and learn in. In light of COVID-19, students' social-emotional and academic learning can be positively benefited from flexible seating options, like the Jellyfish chair, in the following ways:

-Engaged body = engaged brain

-Satisfies children’s innate need for movement

-Increased alertness and attention for kinesthetic learners

The specific seats I have chosen will help my Kindergarteners direct their excess energy into staying balanced as their brains absorb the reading, writing, and arithmetic they come to school to learn. These seats will also be available for checkout for at-home learning so children can experience a variety of seating options there too.

A fellow Kindergarten teacher has used items like this for her class and says these make a world of a difference for all her students, and for students on the autism spectrum in particular.
