This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students are incredible learners. They are eager and enthusiastic to come to school and learn in two different languages and become bilingual and bicultural. My class is a blend of native English and Spanish speakers and they all come from different socioeconomic backgrounds. At times this can be a challenge when some children have many resources and experiences outside of school and others don't. But at school we make our differences unite us and we truly work as a team. We synergize to learn from each other and celebrate our successes together.
As a class we work hard to find the leader that exist within each student.
We do this by practicing the 7 Habits of Happy Kids. I wholeheartedly believe in helping students develop learning habits that transcends the classroom. Students work hard and always give their best effort because they understand that they are in charge of their learning. During this school year I want my students to know that learning is gratifying and endless.
My Project
Small group guided reading instruction is one of the most important reading components of my English Language Arts block. During this time my students get to experience reading, writing, listening and speaking in different scenarios. As we continue developing independent reading skills, I meet with students in small groups 2-3 times a week. During this time we spend about 20-25 minutes of guided reading instruction and for many students this may seem a long time to participate and sit in a small group. Giving them a different sitting option could make a huge difference in their ability to stay focused while participating in reading.
The wobble chairs would allow my students to wiggle and wobble as they enjoy guided reading instruction.
Using these chairs will allow my energetic 3rd graders to wiggle in safely manner as we learn together. This will help them focus and continue to develop language and most importantly an interest in reading.
