Wiggling Our Way Through Creativity

Help me give my students a wiggly experience with creativity and composting! Can you just imagine opening a book to learn more about a worm and then getting to hold a live worm in your hand!

This project expired on May 6, 2022.

My Students

My students walk into my gifted classroom every day full of life, ready to learn, and excited for what is in store for them that day. It's so exciting for them, as well as me, to watch them conquer a challenge and get super excited about new topics they aren't so sure about. For many of them, it is their favorite part of the school day.

I teach at a Title I school in Mississippi, where all students receive free breakfast and lunch.

Even as we continue to navigate through another school year during a pandemic, my students are still eager to learn and do their best. They want to be in school because they want to learn all they can. They are like little sponges soaking up more information than I could ever imagine.

My Project

How much fun would it be to hold a wiggling worm in your hand! Our so much! So many students don't get outside anymore, so these resources would allow students the opportunity to research and learn more about how worms really do help the earth and play a huge roll in the foods we grow.

I want to help students make connections between the skills I have to teach and everyday agriculture that most students never get to experience.

Growing up on a farm has such wonderful memories for me. I want to be able to give my students some of those experiences, while teaching them the skills that are required of me with my curriculum.

Think about holding a worm before adding it to a compost, then making a list all the different things that worm shape could be. This is just one example of how I will incorporate composting/agriculture into my unit on creativity.
