I work at a school where 61% of the students receive free or reduced-price lunch. My class is an integrated prekindergarten room, which consists of students aged three to five years old. The class consists of 30% students who have Individualized Education Plans. The students are learning through investigation, exploration, and building their curiosity through a science-based curriculum every day. Their success is vibrant through their dedication, perseverance, and above all their smiles through the numerous unit-learning projects we have completed.
This year we have had the amazing opportunity to publish another book called "If I Could Have a Pet." This activity had the students learning the research process to gain information about their chosen animal.
From visiting the library, the art teacher, taking research home to work on with our families, to finally getting the opportunity to present our class book and the students' non-fiction book, the students got to experience learning in a whole new way. Their in-depth learning, research, and engagement has enriched the student's love for learning. It is my ultimate goal through activities like this to keep enriching my students’ lives to help assist them in building the best educational foundation possible.
Prekindergarten students are always on the move, and I am always looking for new ways to assist my students to become the best learners as possible. Play is an integral part of learning key attributes at this age, and team building skills are one of the most vital components. In order to be successful in today's fast paced world, students must know how to work together to accomplish a task.
Through stem building materials and games, young students learn to build teamwork skills and learn what it takes to be successful.
Using materials like the Turn & Learn Magnetic Gears, Marble Run Toys, 60 Pieces Wooden Classic Ramps Track Building Construction Set, and Building Fine Motor Skills Games students can learn to work collaboratively as a team with their peers to accomplish the goal. The Flex-Space Wobble Cushions will allow students the physical activity and movement throughout the day which can significantly increase students' attention, stamina, and learning.
