Our classroom is unique. We have students with autism, significant cognitive disabilities, and medical needs. My students work so hard each day, despite any diagnosis. Their needs are unique and ever-changing. I would love to give my students items to be successful.
Communication and sensory items are crucial to my students' learning.
We have several areas in our room dedicated to regulation; however, we need to provide a few more items to better meet those needs.
The sensory items, such as the body sock, weighted wristbands, and wiggle foot cushion, will help my students regulate when upset, overwhelmed, or hyperactive. They will be kept in our sensory corner. This allows for a safe space for students to use on their own as needed.
The books, fan, and bubble machine will help with communication skills. We will adapt the fan and bubble machine to run with a switch button so non-speaking students may work on cause and effect. The books provide core vocabulary for those building key communication skills.
The final items are for birthday celebrations. Each student will be provided with a bag that has the fidget, duck, and ring pops in them to celebrate big on their birthdays!
