My Project
In our classroom, learning isn’t one-size-fits-all. Some students need to move to focus, while others are constantly searching for their next great read. This project will provide two things that help support every learner: graphic novels and flexible seating tools like bouncy bands, Sit & Twists, and Fidgety Feet.
Graphic novels are more than just fun—they’re powerful tools for building reading skills.
Their visual support helps struggling readers with comprehension and fluency, while also keeping strong readers engaged. These books make reading exciting and accessible, especially for students who haven’t yet found joy in traditional chapter books. Alongside this, flexible seating and movement options help students with ADHD or high energy stay calm and focused without being disruptive.
This year, I’m transitioning into teaching ELA after six years of teaching math and science. I’m building a classroom library from the ground up, and I want to make sure it includes books that will hook students, support diverse reading needs, and spark conversations.
What makes this group of students so special is that I’m looping with them—I had the joy of teaching them last year, and I already know their personalities, their strengths, and how hard they work. We have some truly avid readers in this group who fly through books, and others who need that extra encouragement. I want every student to feel seen, supported, and excited to learn.
