This is my first year teaching, and I have a class of 16 second graders. Most of them come from military homes. Some of my students are able to have both parents with them at home, while some have one or both of their parents off on deployment.
The emotional strength of these brave kids is so remarkable.
I want to be able to provide a classroom that makes them want to come to school to learn and feel safe.
My Project
My second grade students are always moving, but unfortunately my classroom doesn't offer many options even with the brain breaks and our carpet learning time we are still needing to move.
Flexible seating would allow my students to take charge of their learning and make the choices that work best for them.
I would like to supply my classroom with wobble chairs, balance balls, and wiggle cushions to help keep our learning moving forward.
I have seen students more engaged in their work and less disruptive of their peers when they are given a choice of where to work. I would love for my students to have this opportunity in our classroom.
The wobble chairs and balance balls would allow my students to get their wiggles out while still working. These products will help my students by giving them additional seating options to make more effective learning choices. These products will also help my students work on building their stamina during our reading and writing, which is one of our goals we are working on this year.
These will be extremely beneficial for some students that just need to get the wiggles out.
As a first-year teacher, I only have a couple of chairs for my students to sit in during reading time that we have to take turns with. I would love for all of my students to benefit from flexible seating.
