My 2nd graders are very energetic and eager to learn. They love to be able to have seating options when they are working. They also love playing games to learn.
We are in a high poverty and very diverse area, so my students don't get a lot of options when it comes to unique experiences and alternative seating.
Being comfortable and having fun while learning are big parts in learning and so is the ability to move around. I want to give my students what they deserve: a great learning experience, the supplies they need, and options of alternative seating.
It is a fact that music soothes the savage beast. I have had a classroom radio for years, but over the summer our CD player decided to retire without asking first. I have 60 beats per minute music to help stimulate my student's learning, but haven't been able to listen to it. The music also helps me, as a teacher, focus and keep my students on track with work and transitions.
These materials will help my students wiggle, learn, and let music help soothe their souls.
As a 5th year 2nd grade teacher, I have seen a variety of student behaviors. The most repetitive behavior I see is the kids have a bad case of the wiggles. The wobble stools will help my students be able to wiggle and learn, as well as the other types of alternative seating already in the classroom.
Another thing I have noticed is the more fun you make learning, the more the students enjoy it and learn! With the math games, I will be able to make math more fun and interesting, as well as boost interest in the subject. We implemented reading games recently, and the students prefer these games to Candy Land and Sorry! Group games also promote friendship and cooperative play with other students that they may not have chosen on their own to play with.
