My students need balance chairs & balls to give an extra bounce to their learning & calm their wiggles. They need the fidget toys to focus while they are listening.
Hi, I teach kindergarten to 22 very energetic 5 and 6 year old children. We are in a very low income school. The entire school receives free breakfast and lunch daily. We need these items to get their wiggles out, so they can focus on learning.
I have 22 awesome, fun to work with students at a low income school.
Every day they put a smile on my face. Each have their strengths and weaknesses, but all want to do their best. Most ride the bus or walk to school each day. There is so much for me to teach them and they are hungry to learn! Kindergarten is now the new first grade. We are reading and writing in kindergarten. Some come to kindergarten with many learning skills and some come without any. The safest place for many are here in my classroom. I like to think this is a second home to many.
My Project
The students will use the fidgets such as squeeze balls, finger fidgets, and koosh balls while I read aloud. I know asking them to sit still, is a difficult task, so I am hoping the fidgets will help them to remain quiet. The fidgets will also be used during silent, independent reading time.
The stability chairs/balls will be used for active children to sit on instead of a regular classroom chair. An active child needs the freedom of movement without adding distraction to the others. A stability chair/ball will give them that extra "bounce" that they need to be engaged in the classroom.
We will also use the stability chairs/balls during workstations. It will teach the children how we have to share things in the classroom.
Your donation will help my students to become more engaged learners.
The ability to bounce instead of just sit will give that active student the tool to learn instead of fidgeting.
"Sitting still is overrated. It makes sense for the opera or for meditating, but in most classrooms and child care centers, it's given far more honor than it deserves. Children need to move." ~Tom Hunter, National Association for the Education of Young Children.
