Wiggle. Wobble. Learn. - - Flexible Seating Choice for Kids
My students need balance balls, wobble cushions, bouncy bands, and wobble chairs so they can make a choice on where they want to sit in order to do their best learning.
My 3rd grade students are an energetic group of learners. They are always eager to learn new information and build on what they already know. I am always looking at ways to engage their learning and challenge them. This year I would love to try flexible seating in my classroom. I want to put the students in control of their learning. I want them to realize that sometimes sitting at a desk and trying to learn doesn't work. I believe in getting up and getting those wiggles out. However, with flexible seating, students will not have to wait for a break brain.
We have a very diverse population and are a School-Wide Title 1 School.
They will be the only third grade class this school year at our small, rural school of about 350 4K-12 students. More than 70% of our students in the elementary school receive free or reduced breakfast and lunch. Despite these things, the students at our school are still hoping to do their best and put forth their best effort every day!
My Project
By giving my students a choice where they want to sit, they are taking more control of their learning. They will discover which flexible seating options work best for them (stability ball, chair with wobble cushion, chair with bouncy band, and/or wobble chair). They might realize that one choice works well for one subject, but not for another. I really want my students to feel comfortable at all times during the day, because I know they will do their best learning and give me 100% when they feel most comfortable.
Students will be able to get their wiggles out while still learning with the option of flexible seating.
By giving students the options of different seating choices, I am putting the learning in their hands. This is something new that I am really excited to try out during the school year. I know that this will greatly help my students learn better.
I know this will make a positive impact on my students, and I can't wait to see the results!
