Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

I am a second grade teacher employed at a Title I school. The students in my classroom are bright, kind, driven, and strive to do their best in all they do. They are building their resiliency and growth-mindsets, believing they can work through any obstacle that they encounter. We prioritize social-emotional well-being and our classroom community is strong, where we all chip in to help one another and lift each other up.

Many of my students have a need for extra kinesthetic movement and I strongly believe that flexible seating options would help encourage productivity while decreasing disruption.

A variety of flexible seating options offers students the freedom to work comfortably and safely in their own way, whether that’s wiggling, wobbling, lying down, or leaning back. Giving students this choice allows for an heightened self-awareness and encourages them to complete their assigned task. For students who need more movement, the wave seats and wiggle cushions are an excellent tool to help those students stay engaged in their task while fulfilling their need for motion. The floor cushions and nest floor seats will make an excellent seating choice for the majority of my students who love to find a quiet spot in the room on the floor to work.

Student well-bring, independence, and classroom community are all priorities for me as a teacher. I would be blessed to have these items for my current and future students and look forward to the day I can treat my students with this flexible seating dream.
