My Students

Incorporating opportunities for movement in the classroom helps students become less fidgety and more focused. I have 14 wonderful 2nd graders in my classroom. They are all unique and have diverse learning needs that must be met daily.

Our classroom thrives on movement and active learning.

My students need to let the wiggles out every so often throughout the day in order to refocus and learn. Our classroom community is one that focuses on building success together and supports one another in the classroom.

My Project

In my class, I have several students who require extra movement.

At their young age, students require more physical activity than their allotted time for gym and recess.

I have used a metal stool for some students to try at their desks, however, they are not flexible or wobbly like these Hokki stools. The metal stools serve as a replacement for a standard chair, rather than a flexible seating option, which has not helped student movement or focus. The students have commented on how they wish the stools moved more instead of falling down! Think of a time where you were in a meeting or class where you were required to sit without being able to fidget or move your legs. It feels restricting! These Hokki stools will help the students in my classroom to move more based on their individual needs!

Students will have the opportunity to sit on these Hokki stools instead of regular hard chairs. They have a desire to learn but need help to stay motivated and engaged in their learning. Being able to wiggle on a stool while not distracting others will help increase student focus and attention during lesson instruction.
