Wiggle, Wobble, and Learn!

My Students

I am privileged to work with an amazing group of inquisitive and creative students. They love learning new things about the world that surrounds them. We spend our school days discussing everything from fractions to current events going on in our country and around the world.

My school is a vital part of its surrounding community.

It is a place where students feel safe and are allowed to grow academically and as a citizen of their community. We all work hard to take care of ourselves, others, and the environment.

My Project

The more we learn about the ways in which kids learn best, the more we realize the need for dramatic changes to the traditional classroom setting. A major part of this is rethinking how often and how long we are asking kids to sit still in their learning environment.

Kids need to be given the chance move their bodies as often as possible!

Through the use of flexible and alternative seating options, students are given the opportunity to have a choice in an aspect of their educational process. They are also given more freedom and allowances to get some of their wiggles out in a productive manner while staying on task.

By being able to use items like a balance ball chair, floor chairs, wobble chairs, and lap desks, students do not have to stop working in order to take a moment to move around a bit. Today's kids are expected to read, write, and synthesize more information than ever before. Flexible seating takes away some of the strain that kids can experience by being asked to sit for so long, which in turn helps improve learning skills such as reading comprehension and writing stamina.
