My Students

"Education is not the filling of a pail, but the lighting of a fire." - William Butler Yeats. In our classroom, we light the fire by meeting the needs of our students whenever possible. Our classroom in a family. We learn from each other and respect our differences.

My students come from all different backgrounds, which makes for a fantastic learning family.

We are a bilingual, Title I school in a suburban-like area. Our school is 75% free/reduced-price lunch. As a school, we strive to build relationships with parents and community members. These relationships provide us with much-needed classroom volunteers and occasional resources. Our ultimate goal is to educate each student to achieve personal excellence.

My Project

In today's world, students find it difficult to sit still and focus on one task. They need to keep their bodies moving in order to keep their minds engaged. Our classroom has a few alternative seats already, but I would love to give every student the opportunity to wiggle.

When students can fidget and wiggle, their attention span grows!

Adding more exercise balls to my classroom will allow me to reach all my students. They can move while listening to a math lesson, collaborating with their tablemates, or working independently. The addition of handheld fidgets will allow my fourth-graders to chose when they need the extra stimulation. They will be able to pick a fidget from a basket and take it to where they are working.

My students work all over the classroom. The floor seats and floor mat will allow students to be more comfortable while reading independently or working together.
