In my classroom, students enter school with excitement--and what an experience to watch them learn and grow! I use flexible seating in my classroom in order to allow students choice, comfort, and movement. They learn at workstations individually, in pairs, and in small groups. In each instance students have seating choices. These choices have made a difference in student attentiveness during the last few years. They have helped me to create a feeling more like home- where students can sit at the kitchen counter on the floor, at the table or other places.
My Project
While I have a variety of seating options by the high and floor tables and at no traditional spots, my classroom is missing seats which allow movement at the traditional height tables. Some students have the need to be able to move to learn. These wobble chairs are an alternative to traditional seating—giving my students a full range of movement and the stability they need to wobble without tipping over! Each chairs’ unique design helps strengthen core muscles while encouraging proper posture. There are built-in handles that make the chairs easy to pick up and move anywhere in the classroom! This means students can move to a place in the classroom where they are comfortable. Comfort allows them to relax and focus. These feelings increase student academic learning. It also creates an atmosphere where students can focus on their own and their fellow classmates’ social and emotional needs. A big part of kindergarten learning!
