This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
The students in my school face a variety of challenges, yet come to school each day ready to learn. Students in my learning support classroom have a variety of disabilities including autism, learning disabilities, intellectual disabilities, ADHD, traumatic brain injury, and behavioral/emotional disabilities.
We are a diverse, high poverty school and 100% of our students receive a free lunch and 68% of our students are minorities.
My students' academic levels vary widely. While some are at or near their grade level, others are two to three years behind academically. It is essential that I am able to maximize their education and provide individualized instruction.
My Project
The Learniture active learning stools will allow students to get movement and sensory stimulation while still remaining in their seats, allowing them to get the sensory input they need while maximizing their learning.
My students are constantly on the move and often have a difficult time focusing and district themselves and others.
Research has shown that giving students who struggle with attention or are on the autism spectrum extra sensory input and keeping their body active can help keep them engaged in the classroom. My students with behavioral and emotional disorders can also use them to relieve anxiety, stress, and calm down when the classroom gets difficult or overwhelming.
