Wiggle While You Work

My students need flexible seating options and storage for multi-sensory learning styles. Pillows and inflatable seat cushions, along with exercise balls and stools already purchased will give students seating choices beyond traditional chairs.

My Students

I teach students in a high-poverty district. Many of the students come from homes in the poverty category. My classroom contains students a majority of students who arrived well below level in reading and who are served by interventionists and special services in reading and math. Some students receive services for speech as well. I also have ESOL students in the classroom from time to time. We are required to use computers for quarterly and standardized testing now.

With such a large number of students who struggle with reading and math, we need lots of supportive choices-especially for those with multi-sensory learning needs .

These materials will help students to choose the best seating option for learning, move without disrupting others and still maintain privacy and focus during assessments.

My Project

Not all learners can focus well in a desk. Some students prefer to stand, some to wobble on cushions or exercise balls. Others like stools and many will choose to sit in the floor! By providing seating options, storage shelves and privacy walls, my classroom can be transformed from a traditional setting to a multi-sensory environment that satisfies all learners. This will also easily transition for guided reading and math groupings, testing and classroom meeting space, using the doorbell chime to call students quietly back to whole group. Add lamp lighting and classical music and we are ready to learn in a soothing environment.
