Wiggle While You Work, Kindergarten!

Help me give my students flexible seating options that will create a welcoming and exciting environment for early learners. These options include wobble stools for our guided reading table that will allow students to wiggle while they work!

My Students

My kindergarten classroom is full of students with various skills and needs. I have artists, readers, builders, writers, and of course daydreamers. My class loves to work as a team, work in small teams, and share all of their knowledge. They are constantly rotating around the room to learn new skills; listening and reading independently on the floor, to sitting in chairs at our tables.

My students' learning will benefit from flexible seating, giving their diverse learning styles the options they need.

Some students work best in their own space, and others thrive when they are able to move their bodies while they work.

My Project

In a normal day my kindergarteners transition from table to table in rotations during reading and math centers, and from the rug to tables during whole group writing lessons. Our current chairs differ in height, but lack flexibility that fit student needs. Students are constantly standing next to or behind their chairs, kneeling on them, or balancing on two legs.

I am asking for four differently styles of seating to meet the needs of the wiggly, the wobbly, and the restless.

The wiggle stools that I am asking for will be used at our guided reading table, allowing students to move their bodies and sit in the desired learning position. The floor cushions and seats will set personal boundaries for their bodies on the rug or tiles. The last item, balance ball seats, will help my most active students stay in their spots at the table and keep them focused.

I look forward to a classroom with flexible seating options that will get some of the youngest students more excited to sit at tables or around the floor and get to work!
