Wiggle While We Work

Help me give my students the opportunity to wiggle while they work. Today more than ever before my students have such a hard time with focusing on their work. Their bodies are just aching to move!

My Students

I work in a departmentalized school and teach ELA and social studies. Between both of my classes I have a combined 38 students. My sweet kiddos love to move and I try to incorporate movement as much as possible in my classroom through the use of brain breaks and decreasing the amount of seat work I assign. Unfortunately, it is not possible to do brain breaks and centers all day long and when my kiddos do need to sit down they have a very hard time focusing and paying attention. I often have to remind them to pick their heads up off the desk. Sometimes they are so desperate to move they literally just fall out of their seats .

My Project

Studies have proven that students in today’s generation are not getting enough exercise. This lack of exercise severely impacts their ability to focus I a general classroom setting. Their little bodies are just aching to move. If you and I can’t possibly sit still that long and pay attention how can we expect eight and nine-year-olds to do the same. Help me kill two birds with one stone by allowing them the opportunity to wiggle while they work. These exercise balls will allow the students to wiggle, roll, and bounce while still being able to focus on their work in front of them. Thus increasing focus and productivity.
