I teach first grade in a rural area where over sixty percent of our students qualify for free or reduced price lunches. A lot of parents and students do not have access to adequate funding for supplies and the "extras" that go into having a successful educational experience. I end up providing over half of the supplies needed for my students out of my own pocket. I want my students to feel important and cared for when they come into my classroom. Having the supplies requested, will help me provide an engaging classroom experience.
My Project
First grade is full of fun and learning! We all know that 6 and 7 year olds are not made to sit still and be quiet! They are made to move! With the addition of alternative seating (seating discs and stability balls), my students will have the ability to sit in a variety of places to work. They will no longer be confined to their desk and have the freedom to MOVE! While getting comfortable to work, they will also need a flat surface to write on. That is where the whiteboards come into play. They can use their board to steady their work. In addition to a flexible work space, the whiteboard will also double as a teaching tool throughout our school year to practice sounds, words, sentences, and even math problems on the back! The possibilities are endless!
