Mrs. Rolf from Independence KY is requesting Flexible Seating through DonorsChoose, the most trusted classroom funding site for teachers.
My students need more options to sit comfortably in my classroom. Students need the options like wobbly stools and balance disks to sit on.
My students walk into my classroom every day ready and excited to learn! It is my job to make sure I am providing the best learning environment for every student. Many of my students struggle to sit at their desk all day, they need to be able to move and be comfortable to make sure they are getting the most out of their learning.
Some students learn best in traditional desks and others need other outlets to learn.
I want to create a classroom with flexible seating options to give my students an environment where their learning thrives.
I have students from a variety of backgrounds, students come from very rural areas as well as suburban neighborhoods. We are a Title I school and want each and every child to perform at their highest level possible, be self-confident, respectful and responsible each and every day.
Have you ever noticed how people work in a coffee shop? They are engaged, appear to be happily working and relaxed. There are a variety of places to sit from big comfy chairs to traditional tables and chairs. If something is uncomfortable, there is a new place they can move and get right back to work. I want to make my classroom have more seating to have this same feel.
Two years ago I implemented flexible seating in my classroom and my students thrived.
I want to provide my students with more places to sit and more of a variety of flexible seating options.
In education today, student motivation and higher engagement is the desired end game, and we as teachers must adapt right along with our students in our classrooms. I want to give students different seating options. More desks will be lowered to the floor for wobbly cushions for students who like to sit on the floor. Students need more wobbly stools to move while working. Students will have the opportunity to sit or work on stools instead of chairs.
Immediate benefits of flexible seating include burning more calories, using up excess energy, improving metabolism, increased motivation and engagement, creating a better oxygen flow to the brain, and improving core strength and overall posture. Research shows powerful links between physical activity and academic performance, including improved grades and standardized test scores. Not only does exercise make kids healthier, it can help them focus and behave better in class. Adults don't have to sit uncomfortably all day, so kids shouldn't have to either.
