Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I teach at a Title I school where 100% of our students receive free breakfast and lunch. I have high expectations that my students will grow and achieve beyond the expectations set for them. We study STEM topics such as robotics, engineering, and coding along with our curriculum.
School is a safe and fun place for my students.
They enjoy coming to school and learning through hands-on, engaging activities. For many of my students, school is the highlight of their day.
My Project
My students love to move but wiggling while working can be a distraction. My students would love to get wiggle seats in our class. These seats are fun colors and are able to help us improve posture. The seats move in a circular motion which is a great way to fidget for kids who need to move during class. Our class is very energetic and ask daily "Is it my turn for the wobble seat?" " Can I have the stool at my desk?" The students are constantly asking when can they have a turn and if I can buy more. They see a difference when they get to use the stool.
We try to get up and move as much as possible so it is not boring to sit in class all day.
These seats will help more than 40 students each day move as they work! My students have said,"This stool keeps me moving, so I can wiggle and learn". The fidget/wiggle stools are great for students with ADHD and autism to be able to move without distracting others. Not only will the stools help them move to stay focused, but also for exercise through movement.
My students will be able to focus and learn new skills. These stools will make our classroom a better learning environment. These stools will provide a safe way to move in class, instead of tapping a pencil or poking our neighbor.
