My Students
First grade is an exciting year! Students are growing as readers, writers, and mathematicians every day. They are learning to work collaboratively, problem solve, and building independence. My goal is to create a classroom environment where all students feel safe and respected.
Over 25% of the students at my school are military connected.
This means that we have students moving in and out of our school all the time. We are proud of our military families and aim to make our school feel like home.
My school works hard to ensure that all students' needs are met, both academically, emotionally, and socially.
My Project
First grade students are movers and shakers! My first graders come to school every day full of energy and excitement to learn! As a teacher, it is my job to help students become life long learners. In order to become a life long learner, students need to know how and where they learn best. We have many flexible seating options in our classroom, including wiggle stools, floor tables, scoop rockers, and lap desks. My students currently rotate four Hokki stools throughout the week.
My dream is to provide ALL students with access to a Hokki stool!
Hokki stools enable students to get their wiggles out in a safe, non-distracting manner.
I can see a benefit for ALL students using Hokki stools. They are excited about learning and love to be able to wiggle while they work! I also notice that students leave their seat less often because they are able to get the movement that they need! They also are at a great height for students to work at tables. Students seek out the Hokki stools at all times during the day, including playing games, free choice, reading workshop, writing workshop, etc.
